I create my jewelry using quality materials, steering away from plated metals. Most of my pieces contain some silver or copper which will naturally tarnish over time. Here are a few of my suggestions to help keep them shiny and beautiful. First and most importantly, avoid storing your jewelry in the bathroom. The moisture and steam will quickly speed up the tarnishing process. Try to store your jewelry in a sealed box in a cool and dark place away from sunlight and heat. A quick tip- toss a little silica packet into your jewelry storage box. You know, the little packet that comes in your new shoe box? It's a great way to reuse the packets and they will help to absorb moisture in the air. Also avoid your jewelry coming into contact with items containing Sulfur. Ultimately the best way to avoid your jewelry from becoming tarnished is to wear it often. If your jewelry is already tarnished, usually a quick wash with warm water and a mild soap can do wonders but hold on tight to the piece so it doesn't go down the drain. Make sure to rinse and dry the piece completely before storing again. To get that oh so shiny look again, gently polish with a jewelry polishing cloth. Sunshine® polishing cloths are my favorite.
